Vincent G. Kokich Sr., DDS, MSD
We are greatly saddened to have lost a great man, Dr. Vincent G. Kokich, Sr. Known throughout the Tacoma community for his humble, honest approach to his work and integrity in all aspects of his life, Dr. Kokich was well-respected by everyone he met. A true gentleman, family man, and healthcare professional, we are sure his legacy will continue both through his family and in the community he loved so much.
Dr. Kokich was passionate about his work as an orthodontist and spent 35 years committed to improving the lives of his patients. His practice, Kokich Orthodontics, was built upon the foundation of blending art with science, and innovation with experience, in order to realize his patients’ dreams of beautiful smiles. With such compassion and consideration towards his fellow man, it is no wonder why Dr. Kokich had a profound effect on those around him.
A graduate of the University of Washington’s dental and orthodontic programs, Dr. Kokich served as a professor in the university's Department of Orthodontics where he published 21 book chapters, 84 scientific articles, 48 review articles, and delivered more than 850 presentations nationally and internationally.
Although Dr. Kokich retired from private practice in 2010, he continued to serve the orthodontic community, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience as editor, associate editor, and member of the editorial advisory boards of several journals, including the Journal of the American Dental Association, the British Journal of Orthodontics, and the Australian Orthodontic Journal. He was appointed editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2010, bringing numerous advancements to the world-renowned orthodontic journal and expanding its presence at AJODO.org.
A loving son, caring husband, proud father, and devoted grandfather, Dr. Kokich is survived by his mother, Helen, his loving wife, Marilyn, his son and practice partner, Vincent, daughter-in-law Michelle, son Obie, daughter-in-law Lindsay, daughter, Mary, son-in-law Alex, daughter Marija, Marija's partner Lance, and seven grandchildren, Maddy, Nick, Luke, Kate, Jackson, Mia, and Nicholas.
Dr. Kokich’s family requests that all donations be made to the Kokich/Shapiro Endowed Scholar Fund at the University of Washington School of Orthodontics or The Kokich Family endowment for faculty development at Bellarmine Prepartory Highschool.
Dr. Kokich’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 30th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 7112 South 12th Street, Tacoma, WA 98465.
