Children should be seen as early as 7-8 years old for an initial orthodontic
evaluation. At this time, many developing bite problems can be detected and
treatment can be recommended as necessary. Correction of these developing
problems at an early age will often prevent them from becoming larger, more
significant problems later.
Most adolescents requiring orthodontic treatment are seen between the ages of 11
and 13. Your dentist is generally the best judge of when it is time to seek an
orthodontic evaluation. They will continually monitor eruption of the permanent
teeth and any developing bite concerns at the regular six month check-ups.
